MEET SARAH

Sarah is a passionate hair colourist and educator situated in Hampshire.

With a wealth of knowledge after working in the west end of London, in some of the best salons such as Trevor Sorbie and Brooks and Brooks, for over 30 years.

Sarah broke away from the restrictions of the London ‘salon life’ and now lives by the sea with her pup – Seymour. She now shares her wealth of knowledge through education and is bringing her unique understanding of hair colour to her beautiful Hampshire clients.

Hair science knowledge gives the most precise information when analysing each hair type for every bespoke colouring service and helps impart the best advice for each individual. Building confidence a mutual trust between client and stylist.

This took a few months to achieve.

We wanted a change but knew it would take a while.

Firstly adding a whole lotta direct dye which was yellow to the hair and after allowing the appearance to look less magenta. We started to add more alkaline colour.

If we hadn’t left the hair to be more natural first the tone to appear when using something stronger would be magenta or red.

But we wanted a more natural brunette, nothing neutral but more natural and even slightly more warm.

That’s why yellow was introduced first as an anchor to the base.

Then we could get to a different reflect. Which was more suitable to her skin tone and could grow out more naturally.

This finished result wasn’t toned and that was because they wanted a natural butter blonde.
If a toner was needed this would still be the level required to create a platinum.

LEVEL 10
Not sure what a level 10 looks like?
Top tip: the colour of the inside of a banana skin (so pale yellow).
As soon as the hair is pushed to a lighter tone the core integrity will be jeopardised and breakage is guaranteed.
Not even the best bond repair can help - the structure and linkage is too far gone.

Now there is no way of stopping all breakage but true analysis will reduce this predicament.
Leaving enough ionic and covalent bond connection will definitely lead to less breakage.

This is a complicated one, we didn’t want to go darker and adding most tones will create a darker look but we can’t use bleach as it reacts with the ionic compounds of the dye.

So, what would you do?

1. Still try bleach but keep an eye on it

2. Add a complimentary colour to neutralise

3. Add tons of yellow to subdue

It doesn’t come easy to all, training the brain to see colour can be a timely vocation
But
Once you have, it’ll really help with your colour analysis for each and every client.

Yes, eyes will pick up more warm reflection than cool and that is determined by the speed at which light travels (it’s all about physics).
So our clients will mostly have the same comments “my hair has turned brassy”
“I have very red tones naturally”, “my blonde is less icy than before”

It is down to you as the professional to determine those “warm tones” and either cool out, neutralise, soften or subdue what they are seeing.
