Day 1: Morning
Hair Analysis & Fibre Fundamentals
Dive into interactive experiments and practical insights to decode the hair's story through analysis. Topics include:- Hair fibre genetics & structure
- Impact of chemicals, pH & environment
- Porosity & natural tone variations
- Texture & its role in product choice
- White hair: pigment loss & formulation impact
- Product chemistry essentials
Day 1: Afternoon
The Chemistry Behind the Colour
The afternoon is full of information and experiments in how the products are made for you to truly be able to make the right choice for the hair fibre you have just analysed.
Find out what & how:
- Oxidant works
- Artificial colour is made, how it works & how many colours do we really have to change the fibre
- Bleach works, how many choices do we truly have & what are the active ingredients to look for to create maximum lift
- High lift colours really work & can they ever turn out anything but warm
- pH levels what it truly means to the hair fibre and where all the products sit on this scale
At the end of the day a yoga or mindset session is held to send everyone away geared up to learn more on day two.
Day 2
How is Colour Seen
After a re-cap day two starts with the physics in how colour is seen, we look at art theory and how this affects hairdressing. Find out more about:- Light reflection & how it works
- Primary, secondary & tertiary colour & what we may have been told might not be all the facts
- How to read the colour globe to help give clarity on colour formulation
- How the brands make colours, where they sit on the colour globe & how much base, tone & background colour is contained in each tube
- How brands make acidic in-direct dyes
- How to control light reflection by using the colour globe

Sarah’s lifelong curiosity drives her passion for hair colouring, approaching every service with precision and scientific insight. Dissatisfied with the limited colour theory taught in salons and colleges, she expanded her expertise through independent study. With over 30 years in top London salons, including Trevor Sorbie and Brooks & Brooks, she has since traded the city pace for a coastal life with her dog, Seymour.

Cristina Fazzone will guide you through a bespoke session on The Chaulk Become a Colour Master tour. She’ll guide you through much needed education that is totally missed in our training to becoming a creative hair colourist.
Understanding the crucial role of mind and body and how it directly impacts your artistic, business and self confidence and creativity. Understand imposter syndrome, how to stop self doubt from consistently creeping in and how we can gain our creative control back. A session that will leave you feeling motivated, self aware and ready to learn more about regaining your creative power!

LAB ASSISTANT
Bernd aka Cyan Magento is Sarah’s lab assistant
Initially a Sassoon hair cutter Bernd joined the AVEDA network in Munich. Over the next 25 years he immersed himself into working behind the chair, in education, stage presentations and collection launches. With the move to London and the launch of AVEDA’s colour range he up-skilled to became a colour specialist. This took him to Canada, the USA, the Channel Islands and Australia.
Now he’s settled in London working as an independant stylist/colourist at Bond Shoreditch.
